Sainsbury's Compensation Offer Fails to Stack Up.
Mrs A was shopping in her local Sainsbury's Supermarket when she suffered an injury due to incorrectly stacked boxes which fell on her.
Mrs A suffered a laceration to her left cheek. The solicitors acting on behalf of Sainsbury's admitted the accident was their fault, but stated that Mrs A should have been aware that the items were badly stacked, so was partly (20%) to blame.
Any fault on behalf of Mrs A was denied as the box which fell was completely obscured from view before it fell. Sainsbury's eventually accepted that Mrs A was not to blame at all for the accident.
A medical report was obtained which confirmed that the scar to Mrs A’s face was expected to fade in time. Sainsbury’s initially offered Mrs A £700 in compensation. Bakers Personal Injury Solicitors eventually settled Mrs A's case for £2250, an increase of over 320% from Sainsbury's original offer.
Mrs A was right to contact Bakers Personal Injury Solicitors to deal with her claim for compensation, had she failed to do so and dealt directly with Sainsbury's insurers they would have tried to settle her case for £700 – 20% = £560 leaving her out of pocket by £1690.
