Hotel liable for guest’s fall

Our Client, Irene, was leaving a hotel restaurant, when she fell down three marble steps she hadn’t seen because of the poor lighting. Irene hit her arm, shoulder and head in the fall causing injuries including cuts to her face and arm, and a black eye. She was checked by a first aider and paramedics on site, before being given a lift home by her daughter.

Following the accident, Irene visited her GP on 10 occasions because of her injuries, particularly the pain, bruising and stiffness in her neck, shoulder and arm.

The accident aggravated an existing condition causing our client to require surgery on her shoulder and physiotherapy, which we helped arrange privately with the cost being paid by the Hotel’s Insurers who had admitted liability.

We went on to recover £5,000 compensation for Irene.
